IB Thermal: OPGC celebrated AES safety day today in the premises of IB Thermal Power Station with this year’s theme “Leading with Safety”. The day started with pinning of safety badge on the uniform for all employees of OPGC including contractor employees and workers. Mr. Richard Stephen (HSES Manager, OPGC II) welcomed all the employees who had gathered at the designated spot for celebrations which was followed by Safety Oath in both English & Hindi given by Mr. Roddy Elder, Dy. Executive Director-Construction of OPGC 3 &4 and Mr. Deba Prasad Mishra (Asst. HSES Manager, OPGC 3 & 4) respectively. Employees and contractor workers took oath to follow safety guidelines in their work place as well as their homes. Senior OPGC delegates Mr. Alok Mukherjee (Director-Operation) and Mr. Ron Mc Parland , (Executive D-Construction, OPGC 3 & 4) gave the leadership message to the mas gathering of OPGC officials as well as EPC partners BHEL, BGRE including NCC, L & T and contractor workers. Mr. Umakanta Pahi, Head(EHS-OPGC-1 &2) also deliberated on the importance of following safety guidelines.
Mr. Sukanta Kumar Mohapatra (General Manager-O & M -In-Charge) and Mr. Khirod Brahma, CEO (OCPL) were present on this occasion among other senior officials. Short plays and skits based on this year’s theme “Leading with Safety” were performed by OPGC employees and contractor workers of BHEL, BGRE, NCC and L & T were staged to convey the safety message which was well received and appreciated by the audience. OPGC also organised an array of programmes over the past week which includes a community safety awareness programme at Baragad village, safety drawing competition among community children and quiz competition among employees and contractor worker. To culminate today’s event, reward & recognition session was held in which contractor workers and employees were rewarded for excellence in following safe work procedure in their area of work. Mr. Gokul Ch. Saha, DGM-Mechanical was given the ‘Safety Champion of the Year’ award in the employee category. Mr. Rudranarayan Das of Electrical-Maintenance, Mr. Pratap Samantaray of C&I and Mr. Hemsagar Bhoi of Mechanical Maintenance were rewarded for excellent safety performance during the last annual overhaul/outage. Mechanical Maintenance team of OPGC -1 Main Plant was adjudged as Safety Excellence Team of the Year. M/s Jitendra Padhan of Civil Maintenance was rewarded as the best contractor of the year. Mr. Amod Karkhanis (Site Safety Manager, OPGC 3 & 4) gave the customary vote of thanks.
In the afternoon, messages of senior AES leaders were presented through video sessions and interaction sessions of this year’s theme ‘Leading with Safety’ was organised.
