Bhubaneswar: The Old Students Association of Jagannathpur GP High School under Kamakhya Nagar Block in Dhenkanal district organized a day long mega cleanliness drive under the banner of Swachh Bharat Abhijan on Wednesday.
The drive was organised to spread the message of importance of hygiene and cleanliness very strongly among the villagers of Jagannathpur and Manitri. The former students assembled at 7.00 am at the school premises and took the pledge to fulfill their duties towards humanity. After prayers and pledge the old students spread out for the campaign.
They cleaned the Anganawadi Centre, veterinary hospital premises, school ground, service road, tube well, temple and water booth. They also cleaned the drainage of the water booth. The volunteers were having brooms in their hands, dust masks on the mouth and feeling of cleanliness in their hearts.
Senior citizens and well-wishers of both villages praised the old students for the initiative and welcomed them with flowers and bouquets. A meeting was organised to chalk out the future course of action, where School Head Master Gajendra Nayak was present.
“This is the beginning…..we have promised ourselves to make the both villages model one in the area. We will organise a mega health camp soon,” said Bibhuti Kahtua, President, Old School Association. Among others Duryadhan Nayak, Biplab Behera, Samarendra Khuntia, Sabuja Bhutia, Sangram Behera, Sisir Behera, Srumti Ranjan Parida, Pradyumna Khuntia and others were actively participated in the initiative.
