Odisha Villagers demand compensation, treatment of accident Victims

Report by Malaya Mohapatra, Keonjhar: Four labours were seriously injured in an industrial accident while they were working inside  the premises of Band Alloys Industry, established at Murusuan, near Palaspanga on 1st April.
Dipa Munda, Niranjan Naik, Dushashan Mahanta and Gurubari Munda received burn injuries and had to be admitted to the keonjhar district Hospital the same day. Three of the injured labourers had to be shifted to Cuttack for specialized treatment while one has been transferred to a private nursing home in keonjhar town. Demanding 10 lakh rupees compensation for the injured victims along with all their medical expenses , hundreds of local villagers demonstrated infront of the industry gate in mursuan. They alleged that the company has been running the plant without experienced and qualified staff for which regular accidents are occurring in the industry premises. The company also has failed to implement Pollution control measures for which the nearby river, streams and village is badly polluted. P.K.Sahoo, a senior manager of Band Alloys discussed with the agitating villagers but could not reach any solution of the issue. The villagers have demanded a high level enquiry by the Director of Factory and Boilers,SPCB and Labour department regarding the safety and Pollution control measures by Band Alloys. The normal factory work has hampered by the agitation.
