Odisha to start Fevipiravir therapy for COVID-19 positive persons with Home Isolation

Bhubaneswar: In a high level meeting presided over Chief Secretary Sri Asit Tripathy held today, it has been decided to initiate steps to start Fevipiravir therapy for COVID-19 positive persons with Home Isolation. The new clinical input and empirical evidence about the pandemic has proved the effectiveness of Fevipiravir treatment as an antiviral therapy. It will save the patients in home isolation from getting serious.

Chief Secretary Sri Tripathy asked Health & Family Welfare department to widely circulate the SOP on use of oral Fevipiravir among the doctors. The department was asked to train members of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) properly for assessing suitability of a patient in home isolation for the therapy.

The therapy would be started only after well informed consent of the patient. The RRTs would deliver medicine, detail information sheet, ‘Dos and Don’ts’ along with ‘how and whom to report reactions/progress about patient’s condition’ at door step of the patients in home isolation.

Additional Chief Secretary Health & Family Welfare Sri P.K. Mohapatra, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Information & Public Relations Sri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secretary IT Sri Manoj Kumar Mishra, Dr Sampad Das, Dr Jayanta Panda, Dr C B K Mohanty along with senior officers, doctors and public health experts participated in the discussions.

Also in a press briefing held today, Prof. Dr. Jayanta Panda, Department of Internal Medicine, SCB Medical College, Cuttack, Dr. Sampad Dash, Aswini Hospital, Cuttack and Dr. Amarendranath Mohanty, Director, State Institute of Health and Family Welfare Department (SIH&FW) explained about detail use of Fevipiravir therapy during Home Isolation. They also answered some FAQs regarding the use of this Fevipiravir therapy.
