Berhampur: In a tragic incident, seven vegetable vendors were killed and five others were critically injured when a speeding truck hit a mini-truck and a bus near Randha square in Ganjam district on Thursday.
The mishap occurred when a speeding truck lost control and hit a vegetable laden truck which was being unloaded. While six persons died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries in hospital. Five others waiting for a bus also sustained critical injures in the accident after the truck ran over them.
The injured were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and their condition was stated to be critical.
Following the incident, irate locals blocked road demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. They also demanded humps on the road to avert such road mishaps. District Collector and SP reached the spot and pacified the locals besides promising to provide compensation to the family of the deceased.
