Odisha set target of enhancing seafood export to make `20,000 crore by 2020

Bhubaneswar: MSME Minister Prafulla Samal said Odisha requires around 5 lakh MT fish for its domestic consumption but around 30,000-40,000 MT is produced. Since the shortfall is being imported from outside, there is a need to boost the domestic production. The State has target of enhancing the seafood export to make `20,000 crore by 2020, he informed.

At the ITI field, the mega event was jointly organized by the Sea food Exporters’ Association, Aqua feed Dealers’ Association and Odisha Shrimp Farmers’ Association with assistance from the Baleswar Chamber of Industries and Commerce (BCIC). Sangram Das, organising secretary of the event, said the fair met all the objectives. Besides farmers, domestic exporters, manufactures, feed and medicine suppliers from outside the State and abroad showcased their products and technologies which were used and proved successful.

As many as 5,000 farmers across the State while took part in it, the leading vendors, manufacturers and distributors across the country participating showcased their products through 104 stalls.
