Odisha: Rayagada Poilice; Score card soard high

Report by Badal Tah; Rayagada: Chronologically going back for last six months, recently Rayagada cops under the leadership of Sri Rahul P R, IPS, SP released a pledge on the eve of thirtieth National Road Safety Week in Rayagada town and facilitated a signature campaign for the commuters & passersby and distributed leaflets mentioning non-negotiables as far as traffic rules are concerned. Yamraj with Chitragupt in traditional attire were seen warning the motorbike riders about the helmets and four wheel drivers about the seat belt. For last few months a no-tolerance zone from Koraput chowk to Sai Hotel chowk is sincerely monitored by the police.

He was able to involve even the school students to spread awareness through “Nukkad Natak”. Paree Express Awareness Campaign-2018 in Rayagada district had overwhelming response due to the tireless efforts of the cops guided by none other than SP Mr.Rahul. He could enrol a few student police cadets from Govt High School, Kashipur. Very often the police interacted with the college women students with regard to self defence including cyber related matters. Interactive Youth Seminar on the occasion of National Youth Day with the college students focussed on building upon values apart from youth related crimes and career. Going beyond the adolescent school children and college youths, they have been very sensitive to issues of senior citizens by issuing them ID cards and other facilities.

Philanthropic actions through “Ama Police” initiatives like distribution of blankets during this chilled winter, sarees and other clothing materials and food items to the poor and sports kits to rural youths have brought the police closer to the community and inculcated a feeling that police is for the people. These activities instilled confidence among the mass & were complemented with a few health camps where free treatment and medicines were provided. Awareness on superstitions on witch hunting, black magic, sorcery and alcohol-tobacco-cannabis free society is continuously done in the hinterland villages. In these interface dialogues with the community, they render priority to the local members of Panchayati Raj Institutions(PRI), the real fabric of rural democracy. And lo and behold, his being human crosses the boundary of the state. Sri Rahul took lead in mobilising a consignment of relief materials including tonnes rice, packed food, garments and kitchen utensils donated by citizens and organisations of Rayagada to Kerala flood victims and sent those by Tata Alappey Express with a message of speedy return to normal life.

The “Women Support Centre (Mahila Sahajog Kendra)” is functioning adjacent to the IUCAW (Investigation Unit for Crime Against Women) building in DIB (District Intelligence Bureau) premises, Rayagada. The Centre supports to ventilate women related pleas like grievance redressal and other type of crime/harassment women are facing.

As a part of restoring law and tranquillity, they were recently very successful in nabbing several hooligans like fake Maoists, extortionists and money snatchers and provided tip-offs to CRPF in combing operation with local police in interior villages infested with ultra-left extremists and able to diffuse several IEDs. Of late they apprehended a gang of criminals, who were engaged in extortion of money from public in the tune of Rs.10 lakhs by posing as Naxal cadres operating in Kashipur block and recovered three motor cycles purchased with the ransom, Rs 1.26 Lakhs and mobile phones from their possession. In K.Singhpur they could seize the stolen money amounting Rs.1.02 lakhs. While a businessman named Sri Sriram Gantayat was returning from Andhra Bank, two unknown persons robbed him of rupees nine lakhs. Police swung into action immediately and recovered Rs.Four lakhs within a week from the culprits of neighbouring AP. Destroying cannabis plants over Rs.35 crores has only added feathers to their cap of achievements. Seizure of gallons of illicit liquor and taking their perpetrators to task has been a continuous phenomenon taken as a drive by the police in all the blocks of Rayagada district. Rayagada Police conducted mock drill on security preparedness in various banks across the district. Necessary inputs were provided for the same for better preparedness and emergency response

Crime knows no boundaries. In a fine morning, people of Rayagada woke up to a seemingly unheard of news of firing incident at a shop in the locality of daily market, Rayagada. Police swiftly and promptly was able to nab the prime accused from Visakhapatnam and was able to recover the weapon of offence, namely a 9mm pistol. Without being complacent they relentlessly pursued the case to find out the deep root of the case and other accomplices. Dedicated teams were formed in Rayagada Police HQs and a team of officers was despatched to Delhi. Finally another dreadful criminal accomplice of the former was nabbed in Delhi. They came all the way to Rayagada to avenge some unilateral love interest that popped up in social media interaction.

As a rugged and committed police officer Mr.Rahul’s meticulous planning, rehearsal and coordination has made the visit of Honorable Governor Prof.Ganeshi lal safe and fruitful . He has not only sustained the skills and techniques of the cops, who are extensively trained to combat any untoward situation, under him, but also has kept the police sniffer dog “Sophy” sufficiently fit. Sophy secured 1st position in “Explosive” during 66th State Police Duty Meet-2018, CID Crime Branch, Odisha Cuttack. And all this within last six months is only the tips of his score card. In spite of a soaring score card, Mr.Rahul speaks less and has been humble in performing his duty and never misses wishing the local denizens during Dasahara, Chrismas, Nuakhai, Chaiti, etc through the official social media like facebook, where he is optimally active. Living upto the expectations of Rayagadians has been a mantra for this pro-people top cop.
