Odisha Police arrested Hardcore Maoist in Semiliguda

Report by Nishapati Nayak, Koraput: Semliguda police arrested a Maoist from Semiliguda on Monday, the fourth day of the Martyrs Week observed by the Red rebels. The rebel was identified as Rupuna Jani, 28, working for Nandapur Area Committee of the outlawed organisation, said police. “The arrested ultra was in our wanted list since long and we were tipped-off about his presence in Semiliguda and a plan was chalked out to nab him,” said SP (Koraput) Kanwar Vishal Singh.

According to press meet IIC, semliguda P.S.Chotray , the arrested rebel had came to Semiliguda to receive some Maoist posters and leaflets to be used during Martyrs’ Week. Interrogation is on to find the rebel’s other links, he said.

Police said the arrested rebel was a member of the armed squad of the NAC and have participated in several Maoist offensives in the area. In a separate incident, the Maoists have reportedly abducted three villages of Dandipadar under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri district on early Monday. Owing to remoteness of the village, police are yet to confirm the incident. “There are reports of abduction of three villagers but we are yet to ascertain it. We are trying to establish contact with the village,” said SP (Malkangiri) Jagmohan Meena. Dandipadar is 75 km from the district headquarters town and one has to trek around five km to reach the village. The village shares a boundary with Chhattisgarh, the Dharba division of the CPI (Maoist) is active in the area, said police.

Accused agreed working for red rebels since 3 long years.later he was arrested u/s 17 CRLA act,16,18,20,UAP act,120(P).Police seized AK-47,9mm pistol,banners,posters related to red rebels.

Meanwhile, no untoward incident was reported across Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts till Monday during the Martyrs Week.
