Bhubaneswar: The Kandhamal police on Monday managed to nab absconding former Phulbani BJD MLA Debendra Kanhar from Ichchapuram in Andhra Pradesh.
Kanhar was arrested on the charge of assaulting a woman in the district on September 3. As per the complaint, Kanhar had barged into the woman’s house and asked her daughter to marry him. When she refused, Kanhar allegedly assaulted the mother and her daughter.
The two reportedly sustained minor injuries. A case was registered under Sections 294, 341,323, 354 and 506 of IPC against the former MLA by the Sadar police. But he had been absconding since then.
