Odisha: Plastic Bag Registration with BMC by Shops

Bhubaneswar: Today BMC Corporation meeting held in presence of Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda, Mayor, Dy. Mayor, Commissioner and Corporators. At the outset of the meeting the house greeted on the recently conferred Smart city best planning award by the American Planning Association.
• Registration of Plastic bags for commercial establishments like shops/ vendors and malls be it large or small in nature.
• Rs. 4000/- per month will be collected towards registration fees for using/ giving of polythene which are above 50 micron. Registration will be done at BMC office.
• For effective plastic waste management one plastic shredding plant will be set up at TTS, near Sainik School with a cost of Rs. 1.40 crores. Out the total expenditure 35 percent of cost will be met from Swachh Bharat Mission fund, Government of India.
• To discourage the users on plastic use for the sake of environment BMC has set the target to put this regulation which as per the guideline of Government of India and norms of Polution control board.
Water ATM is now free:
BMC Corporation has decided today to waive out fees for Water ATMs. Now 30 paisa is charged for one litre of water. Users who are having smart card can avail water free of cost. However people who are not having cards will have to use coins to get water. The cost of the card is available with a nominal fees of Rs. 25/- only.
Street Lights:
Tourism and Culture Minister announced in the Corporation meeting that Tourism department will bear the cost of street lighting in the stretches i.e. Fire Station to Airport, City Women’s College to Gandamunda and Airport to Nandankanan. The work will be executed by the electrical branch of BMC.
Drinking Water:
BMC Commissioner requested the PHEO officials to provide drinking water to the scarcity areas immediately with out looking for long official process. Also it was decided that repairing of tube well will be given priority. PHEO has been asked to provide water through stand posts to scarcity areas.
Progress On Smart City:
Progress report on smart City projects submitted to the house by the CEO of BSCL Vineel Krisha. Mr. Krisha explained about the status of various ongoing status of smart city Bhubaneswar. He also said that the Intelligent traffic management system work has already been started in the sachivalay marg. Tender will be floated for a couple of projects in the first week of May.Also the most ambitious smart Janpath which is about development of 5.5 km road will start after the coming rainy season. Now the project is under tender process.
