Odisha: Maoists kill villager of being police informer

Report by Nishapati Nayak, Koraput: In yet another instance of mindless violence, Maoists have gunned down a person after a ‘praja court’ trial at Kurub village under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri on late Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Dambaru Nayak. Nayak was shot dead by ultras on the charges of being police informer.

According to reports, nearly 20 to 25 armed Maoists had come to the village and dragged Nayak out of his home. Later, after branding Nayak as a police informer, they killed him before other villagers.

Nayak was earlier a Maoist sympathizer and had later surrendered before police around two years ago.

The family members claimed that the Maoists had earlier issued threats to villagers not to surrender or pass any information to local police.
The fresh killing has unleashed terror in Malkangiri district as it is after almost a gap of couple of months that Maoists have targeted innocent villagers in the district.
