Odisha man Daitari Naik carved out around three km long canal through a mountain to bring water to his village

Bhubaneswar: Daitari Naik, a 70-year-old tribal man of village Baitarani under Banspal block of Keonjhar district, carved out around three km long canal through a mountain with a hoe and crowbar.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met Daitari Naik and praised him for his contribution towards Green Odisha. Naik, who is called the ‘Canal Man’ of Odisha had carved the canal to bring water to his village by breaking rocks for cultivation.

The Chief Minister took to Twitter and wrote, “Inspiring to meet septuagenarian farmer Daitari Naik of Keonjhar district. He created a 3 km canal through a mountain with a hoe and a crowbar. The grit he showed is exemplar for humanity and his contribution to a #GreenOdisha is immense.”
