Odisha: Jagatsinghpur shuts down following Congress Bandha

Report by Kahnu Nanda, Jagatsinghpur: Normal life was on Monday disrupted in Jagatsinghpur headquarters and adjoining blocks due to a 9 hour Bandha called by Congress to protest against the oil price hike. In Jagatsinghpur town congress workers led by DCC president Natabar Barik, municipality chairman Biplab Choudhury gathered at bus stand here staged Dharana on Cuttack- Machhagaon NH 55. Shops, educational institutions, state government offices, banks, insurance company offices remained closed during the Bandha hours.

Vehicular traffic also remained off road during the whole of the day in the entire district. Bus services remained off on Para dip and Jagatsinghpur roads. Report said that congress leaders accompanied by hundreds of supporters thronged to different block headquarters and staged demonstration carrying placards and festoons shouted slogans against union government responsible increasing fuel prices mainly petrol and diesel. On the other hand police declared the Bandha passed off peaceful no untoward incidents reported any parts of the district, police said.
