Odisha HC Bar Association called off the cease-work stir after two and half months

Cuttack: The cops-lawyers spat finally came to an end, as Orissa High Court Bar Association on Wednesday called off the cease-work stir after two and half months.

The decision came after a Bar Association meeting held here today. HC Bar Association President Srikant Nayak informed the media persons that the lawyers will resume their work from tomorrow (Thursday). Earlier today, three suspended police personnel, accused in the alleged assault on a lawyer, sought ‘unconditional apology’ before the Orissa High Court.

On August 30, havildar Prasanna Kumar Behera, constable Dillip Kumar Samal, and Odisha armed police force officer Udaya Kumar Bhuyan were placed under suspension for police excesses. Besides, a one-month notice was served to Home Guard Kishore Samal seeking his explanation.

Notably, on August 29, a lawyer Debi Prasad Patnaik, was assaulted by a few police officials following a heated argument near Nua Bazaar bridge in Cuttack.

Protesting the incident, scores of lawyers gheraoed the Chauliaganj police station demanding action against the cops involved in the attack. The lawyers of HC Bar Association then launched a cease-work strike which continued for nearly 78 days. However, the impasse came to an end with an unconditional apology by the accused cops before the HC today.
