Bhubaneswar: Odisha Govt massively evacuated residents from coastal districts to cyclone shelters . As many as 567cyclone shelters and 7092 buildings ready to accommodate almost 11 lakh people in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur Mayurbhanj while Ganjam, Gajapti, Puri, Cuttack, Khurda and Nayagarh diat put on alert.
Residents from areas of coastal districts were shifted to a cyclone shelter, to protect them from heavy rains and winds to be caused by super cyclonic storm ‘AMPHAN’.
NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Service Teams prepositioned in different distircts to assist in rescue and restoration works. In north Odisha, wind speed will increase to 110-120 kmph (135 kmph gusts) by May 20 afternoon in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj districts says Bhubaneswar Met Office Director, HR Biswas. Among north Odisha districts, Bhadrak, Balasore are expected to be most affected says NDRF DG.
Chandbali (Dhamra in particular) and Basudevpur blocks have been put on high alert because of high wind impact. Massive evacuation drive being taken by blocks. NDRF, ODRAF, and Fire Services are in action.
