Bhubaneswar: The State Government has started preparations for the Men’s Hockey World Cup to be organised at the same Kalinga Stadium here between November and December 2018. Chief Secretary AP Padhi presided a meeting over this at the State Secretariat.
According to decisions, visitors’ galleries would be erected on the north and south sides of the hockey field of the Kalinga Stadium. The hockey field would be developed into a hockey stadium.
Sports and Youth Services Secretary Vishal Devsaid about 16 international teams would participate in the World Cup. He said about 25,000 foreign tourists, including players, guests and their supporters, would stay in the city. For their stay, all available facilities like home stays, hotels, guest houses and university hostel rooms would be utilised.
Besides, widening of inside roads and construction of food courts and recreational hall would be undertaken and completed before October 2018.
The meeting also discussed about the proposed Men’s Hockey League to be held from December 1 to 10 this year. Top teams from India, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Germany, Netherlands and Spain would participate. A total of 22 matches would be played.
