Odisha Govt signs deal with GIZ India to develop integrated Sustainable Urban Transport Systems in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneshwar: A Note of Technical Cooperation was signed by the Government of Odisha with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India. on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany today for availing technical assistance of GIZ under Integrated Sustainable Urban Transport Systems for Smart Cities in India (SMART-SI IT) project in Bhubaneswar. This is one of the support for development of Smart Cities for which GIZ will provide 4 million FUR technical assistance to three Smart Cities in India i.e. Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore and Kochi and their respective State Goverments. The note of cooperation was signed by Mr. Prem Kumar ilia, IFS, Special Secretary, [lousing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD). Government of Odisha, Dr Krishan Kumar. 1AS, Vice-Chairman. Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), and Ms. Sarah Habersack, Project Manager, GIZ Smart-SUT in the presence of Shri Niranjan Pujari. Hon’ble Minister, Housing and Urban Development. Water Resources, Government of Odisha. Mr itirgen Thomas Schrod. Deputy Consul General. Federal Republic of Germany. and Ms Tanja Feldmann, Cluster Coordinator, Sustainable Urban and Industrial Development. GIZ India,
The Indo-German Development Cooperation. Sinart-SUT project is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by MUDD, BDA. and GIZ India. The main objective of this project is to improve planning and implementation of sustainable and integrated urban transport systems and solutions. Through this partnership. GIZ will support the city in developing an integrated urban transport system providing sustainable mobility solutions for all people living in the city. The project will support Bhubaneshwar in becoming a Smart City as part of the German support to Smart Cities.
The first activity under this collaboration would be preparing a Low Carbon Mobility Plan (LCMP), as a key strategy document for Bhubaneswar.
Dr. Krishan Kumar extended his vote of thanks and said that the urban transport measures identified under this project would definitely help Bhubaneswar in becoming smart and sustainable; hence further improving the quality of life.
