Odisha Govt sanctioned Rs 440 crore under watershed, micro irrigation schemes for development of water resources

Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Saturday sanctioned annual action plans of Rs 440 crore under watershed and micro irrigation schemes for development of water resources in the State during the current year, 2018-19. The annual action plans were approved at the State-level sanctioning committee held under chairmanship of AP Padhi at the Secretariat on Saturday.

The Chief Secretary stressed on early completion of projects and supply of water to agricultural fields at appropriate times.

According to an official release, watershed projects worth Rs 250 crore were approved under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana. While Union Government would provide Rs 98.44 crore, the rest would be borne by the State Government.

Similarly, annual action plans worth Rs 88.95 crore have been sanctioned under the ‘Per Drop More Crop’ programme for which the Centre and State Government would provide Rs 40 crore and Rs 48.95 crore, respectively. Under this programme, a total of 5,695 hectares of land would be irrigated trough 2,345 irrigation projects. Besides, annual action plans of Rs 87.97 crore were approved under the micro irrigation programme. A total of 20,546 beneficiaries would be included in projects like “deep irrigation’ and ‘spinkler irrigation’. While the Centre would provide Rs 30 crore, the State would bear Rs 37.59 crore and concerned farmers Rs 20.38 crore.

Among others, Finance Secretary Tuhinkant Pandey, Water Resources Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena, Cooperation Secretary Ranjana Chopra, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Secretary Sourav Garg were present.
