Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday approved damage assistance of Rs 2,770 crore for relief and restoration in the cyclone-affected southern districts of Odisha. The damage assistance was approved during a high-level state disaster management executive meeting held at the secretariat today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi. SRC Sethi said of the total approved amount, Rs 375 crore will be spent in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts which suffered maximum damage during the twin calamities. The government has also sanctioned money to different departments for restoration works. While Rs 27 crore has been sanctioned to the energy department for restoration of electricity, Rs 20 crore was allocated for food supplies and consumer welfare department.
Similarly, Rs 7 crore has been approved for the water resources department, Rs 50 crore for the public works department, Rs 55 crore for rural development department and Rs 624 crore has been sanctioned for the panchayati raj department.
The SRC said the restorations are going on in full swing in the affected areas by the concerned department. “While the restoration of roads, electricity, drinking water and government buildings is underway, repairing of breaches have been completed,” he added.
He further said that officials have been asked to estimate the loss and distribute compensations to the victims. “In the first phase, the memorandum of Rs 2,770 crore of damage has been sent to the Centre and Rs 1,000 crore has been sought as interim assistance,” Sethi added.
