Odisha Govt accorded recognition to Centurion University as a Skill university

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has accorded recognition to the Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) as a Skill university.

Skill Development and Technical Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh has brought out a Gazette Notification in this regard after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik cleared the proposal.

The CUTM has turned out to be the first University of Skill in India.

CUTM head Prof Mukti Kanta Mishra is not only active in skilling development in Odisha but is having presence in several other States including Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. He believes in building human competency and that skill development is needed to be tagged with the mainstream so that this sector receives more attention.

“Unless skilling is made part of the mainstream education, it is not going to work. If you are a graduate in economics, the degree should be commensurate with appropriate, relevant and meaningful competency. You should understand more of practical and less theory, with focus on action,” says Prof Mishra.

For last 11 long years, Prof Mishra is into skill development, Through the CUTM and the Gram Tarang initiative, he has been able to provide skill training to over 1.15 lakh youths, 70 per cent of whom have got jobs across the country.

The CUTM has five campuses in Odisha. Recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu allowed it to set up its new university at Vishakhapatnam.
