Odisha: Community Awareness Programmes organised by Indian Oil Paradip Refinery

Report by Kanhu  Nanda, Paradip : Paradip Refinery conducted a Community Awareness Programme on Safety, Environment & CSR involving the elected representatives of Gram Panchyats of four adjoining villages Dhinkia, Paradipgarh , Kothi and Bagadia along with volunteers from these villages. Educating people living in the neighborhood & sharing information on environment, safety & disaster management has been being adopted as a key component management initiatives at Paradip Refinery. In this familiarization programme a nice presentation was made in local odiya language by F&S and HSE departments of Paradip Refinery on state-of-the-art technologies and systems adopted for protection of the air, water & land environment surrounding Paradip Refinery, preserving ecology & bio-diversity in the area.

The latest technology safety, fire protection & disaster management facilities installed in Paradip Refinery were also presented to assure the villagers on safety issues & concerns. The villagers were advised not be panicky in any case & Do’s & Don’ts in case of any major emergencies were also informed in local language. Various CSR activities carried out by Paradip Refinery were also discussed in the meeting.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri L.N. Phukan, GM(HSE), Paradip Refinery and co-ordinated by senior Officials of F&S, HSE, HR, CC & CSR Department of Paradip Refinery. The community awareness and information sharing programme was well appreciated by the local representatives.
