Bhubaneswar: The Chief secretary of Odisha Mr. Aditya Prasad Padhi visited the Kalinga stadium on Tuesday 4th September 2018 to review the preparedness of the infrastructure for the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 from November 28th to December 16th 2018.
The stadium now is in the last leg of the renovation and will soon be all set for inauguration. The stadium is being revamped keeping in mind the expected visitors to experience the biggest sporting event. The sitting capacity of the stadium has been double, from 7000 earlier to 15,000 now. Two new stands have been added along with expansion of the existing stands.
“Hockey world cup 2018 will commence from 28th November and will continue till 16 December, all the work related to the expansion of roads and facade are going on fine and should be
completed by the end of this month. The inauguration of the newly built stadium will take place in the October” said Mr. Padhi while speaking to the media.
Number of entry gates to the stadium have been increased for the convenience of the spectators and the existing gates also have been widened. Internal roads in the stadium have also been
widened for the easy commute The senior officials were present during the review visit including Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty, Secretary
Sports and Youth Services dept Vishal kumar Dev, CMD IDCO Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secretary Works dept Nalini Kanth Pradhan and BMC commissioner Dr Krishan Kumar.
