Odisha Cashew Corporation to expand cashew cultivation in Nabarangpur district

Report by Basant Rath, Nabarangpur: Odisha Cashew Corporation has initiated massive efforts in cultivation of cashew in the district. The corporation will take measures to expand the area under cultivation and replace the aged plants with new high-yield verities as well as supports apple processing.

In a meeting held at Ashok Meheta conference hall of collectorate Odisha cashew corporation Chairman Muna Khan, hopes to attain the number one status in production of cashewnut by focusing on cultivating high yielding varieties as well as bringing more area under cultivation in this district. He requested the district
administration to allot land for cultivation of cashew orchards.

Collector Ajit Kumar Mishra, said the district administration will take steps for cashew cultivation in the 10 tahasils in a big way. He directed the tahasildars to identify 20 hectors of westland in their respective tahasils for cultivation of cashew orchards.

General manager of the corporation PK Sahu, said We have developed different varieties cashew grafts which can produce over 10 kilos per tree as against conventional seedling varieties producing two kilo per tree. “We aim to increase the yield from 800 kg per hectare to 2 tonne per hectare sahu said. He further stressed on establishing model nurseries and popularise cashew apple for making various sub produces. Among others ADM Parikhit Sethy, PD watershed Pradeep Nayak, tahasildars present at the meeting.
