Bhubaneswar: BJD to extend support to NDA’s Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind declares Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik. Earlier in the day PM Narendra Modi speaks to Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik over phone.

It should be noted that Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind has been decided as NDA’s presidential candidate. This was announced by the Amit Shah announced on Monday. Kovind is likely to file his papers on June 23.
Seventy-year-old Kovind is a Dalit leader from Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh. Party chief Amit Shah made an announcement after a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary board earlier in the day. “There has been no discussion yet on names for vice president,” he added.

Shah said PM Modi talked with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi as well as former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and informed them about the NDA’s choice. Kovind was born on October 1, 1945, at Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh. He is a BCom and LLB graduate from Kanpur University.

The NDA’s Presidential nominee was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in 1994-2000 and 2000-2006. He is an advocate by profession and practices in Delhi.

Notably, President Pranab Mukherjee’s term ends on July 24. Voting for the next president is scheduled on July 17, while the counting will take place on July 20.
