Odisha: 2 injured, 1 critical in group clash in Koraput ; Peace committee took responsibility to avoid agitation

Report by Nishapati Nayak; Koraput: Tension ran high in the Semiliguda Town of Koraput district last evening, after at least two traders sustained injuries and one turned critical in stone pelting between two groups over an incident of attack on a garage owner.

Trouble erupted after Semiliguda trader’s association took to the streets and staged a road blockade on NH 26 demanding action against the guilty in November 17 attack on the owner of Suman Garage located near Nandapur Road, by members of a particular community. The agitation took an ugly turn after members of the other community protested the blockade and indulged in a heated argument with the agitators. The dispute escalated into a brawl soon and at least two traders sustained injuries in an ensuing stone pelting between the two sides.

Koraput collector Anupam saha and SP Kanwar Vishal Singh rushed to the spot along with Sunabeda SDPO, Semiliguda IIC and tried to pacify members of both the sides two bring situation under control. Koraput Sub Collector has also reached the spot.

Notably, palpable tension is prevailing in Semiliguda Town of the district since November 17, after a group of people from Uparasahi in the area, attacked the garage owner over a dispute and injured him. Police arrested 4 persons from Uparasahi in connection to the incident at that time.

Later under the leadership of SP kanwar vishal singh at semliguda police station a peace committee was organized by both parties to maintain peace in locals . both parties intellectual agreed to take responsibility to avoid agitation.
