OAK celebrates Utkal divas with its annual event “Vande Utkal Janani-2017”

 

Kolkata: Odias at Kolkata Welfare Association, popularly known as OAK celebrated their Annual Function “Vande Utkal Janani (VUJ-2017)” at the Science City Auditorium, Kolkata.

The event started with the welcome note by Anchor Sasmita Mallick and Hashya Kavi Dr. Kulangara. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was done by the President of Odias at Kolkata Welfare Association (OAK), Sri. Guru Prasad Pattanaik and dignitaries like Mr Indrajit Chatterjee, Executive Director, Sales & Marketing Dalmia Cement East Limited, Internationally acclaimed Odishi Dancer Guru Sri Giridhari Nayak, , Sri. Sushant Kumar Panda, Principal Commissioner Income Tax, Sri. Durga Prasad Tarenia, Director General of State Crime Records Bureau, and Sri Ranjan Mohapatra, Executive Director, IOCL

On the occasion the Souvenir “ODIVISA” was unveiled by Mr Kumud Chandra Paricha Patnaik, Principal commissioner, Income Tax, Dr Samir Kumar Nanda, Director, National Homeopathy College and Sri G K Mohanty, Chief Operating Manager, South Eastern Railway and President Utkal Sikhya Sansada

Guru Prasad Pattanaik, President OAK explained the concept of VUJ “This function of OAK is held to remember the foundation day of Odisha after it was carved out of the combined Bengal-Bihar-Orissa province and became a separate state on 1st of April 1936. The entire OAK collective in Kolkata on this day pay tributes to the legends and renowned personalities like Utkala Gaurav Madhusudan Das, Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das, Maharaja Ramachandra Bhanjadeo, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, , Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gangadhar Meher, Gouri Shankar Ray etc.”

Speaking on the association of Konark Cement with Vande Utkala Janani event, Mr Indrajit Chatterjee, Executive Director, Sales & Marketing Dalmia Cement East Limited, said, Konark Cement is a legacy brand in Odisha and it has been associated with Odias since last six decade. We not only hold functions but are very seriously involved with charity work and serving the people in need. OAK is intimately involved with Cheshire Home a Residential Care for disabled Children and women mostly suffering from Cerebral Palsy, Quadriplegia, or are hearing & speech impaired”

Ladies, men, children and people of all ages thronged the venue Science City and VUJ-2017 was indeed a lively experience. To begin with Children’ Art and Drawing Competition, Photography Contests were held in the morning and afternoon session. The program started with a chorus song by the lady members of OAK “Vande Utkal Janani” the state anthem of Odisha. After that there was an Odishi dance recital by a young danseuse of OAK family Ms Anika Mishra which kept the audience enthralled.
This was followed by the famous “Paika Dance” Kabiraj & Group from Khurdah, Odisha , the group indeed livened up the evening with their famous “Battle Dance” which is an enactment of their rebellion against the British Tyranny in 1817 led by their commander (Buxi) Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Mohapatra Rai. The in house artistes of OAK gave a splendid performance of their talents and presented many melodious Odia songs and captivating dance recital.Finally the two young artistes of the momentous evening “Sohini Mishra and Bishnu Mohan Kabi” had the audience on their feet with their superlative rendition of Odia numbers both old and new.

The program started with awesome Odia Cuisines including the famous “Raghu” Dahi Bara Aludum from Cuttack (Odisha) and ended with a sumptuous dinner.
