Kaniha: NTPC Talcher Kaniha is organising National level Women’s Volley Ball Tournament in the Sports Ground of the Station. The two-day tournament from Feb 29-March 1 ,2020 will witness 84 players of national, state and sub-junior national level from six teams across the country.
The inaugural of the tournament was graced by Shri Mahesh Sahoo, Honorable MP, Dhenkanal in the presence of CGM (TK), Shri Sudip Nag, Shri N.S Rao, GM (O&M), Shri Nabin Bagai, GM(C&M), Shri K. S Sarma, AGM(HR) & Shri P.R Barik, AGM(Offsite), President, Sports Council, Odisha Volleyball Association officials, Sports Council members and employees.
In welcome address, MP ,Shri Mahesh Sahoo motivated the players by highlighting his own journey, which went through the playground to the Parliament. He further mentioned various initiatives taken by NTPC in the field of sports. “NTPC is organizing various events and activities in the areas of sports and education which is commendable,” he said. Shri Sahoo ended his speech by speaking about the 3D’s to success – Discipline, Determination and Dedication.
In his brief address, Shri Sudip Nag spoke about importance of sportsmanship, dedication, and courage as crucial elements for all players. “Winning and losing are part of the same game,” he said. Shri Nag encouraged all players to give their best effort and learn good techniques from other players.
Shri Sujit Pani, Secretary, Sports Council, executive members of the Sports Council, various officials from Odisha Volleyball Association, Asit Kumar Pal, Charu Chandra Nayak, D. Swati Reddy, Madhusmita Panda, Rosan Kumar Sahoo, Ankesh Dehury and Raj Kishor Mallik were also present for technical assistance in the Tournament.
In the inaugural matches played , Team Chattisgarh defeated Bihar & West Bengal team defeated Kendrapada in their respective group matches.
