Pune: The 9th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad concluded its three day student parliament at the scenic MIT-WPU Pune campus in the presence of dignitaries and more than 10000 students from across India. On the concluding day, Ideal Chief Minister Award was announced. Mr. Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar won the Ideal Chief Minister Award. Mr. Nitish Kumar who was not present to accept this award conveyed his regards and message to the young leaders and students present in Pune through video conferencing. In this 3-day long student Parliament Mr. Biman Banerjee, Speak West Bengal Legislative Assembly was also awarded with the Ideal Legislative Assembly speaker award.
Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad over three days saw students participating from across cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad as well as from countries like Netherlands, Nepal, Germany etc. A variety of hot topics were discussed like One Nation One-Election a step towards good governance, Casteism and Corruption: Biggest Blots on Indian Democracy, Indian Economy: Post Demonetization and GST, Fake News and Social Media : A Lethal Combination, amongst others.
Extending his gratitude towards participating students and dignitaries, Mr. Rahul Karad, Founder & Dean, MIT-SOG and Executive President- MIT World Peace University, said, “I am extremely humbled by the fantastic student turnout and participation for the 9th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad chapter. I hope the students enjoyed all the sessions and were able to take back some learning over these three days. Our aim of starting BCS was to encourage youth to participate in politics and somewhere change the negative connotation politics has. I am confident that we will see an even bigger turnout for our 10th chapter. Lastly, I would like to thank all the dignitaries who spared their valuable time and shared some priceless inputs with the students.”
Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar who was not present to receive the award expressed his gratitude through video-conferencing where he said, “I would like to thank MIT- School of Govt. for conferring me with this honor. I congratulate Mr. Rahul Karad for this unique initiative of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad and urge the youth to enter politics for the betterment of the country. We need more and more young and educated people in the politics to strengthen our democracy and with initiatives like Bhartiya Chhatra Sansad I hope to see young faces entering main stream politics soon and paving the way for a brighter future.”
On receiving the award, Mr. Biman Banerjee, Speaker, West Bengal State Legislative Assembly said, “I would like to congratulate MIT-SOG for organizing this unique initiative which is needed today to develop future political leaders. Politics is the best way to service your people and people should look at Politics as an opportunity to serve people and do things for their betterment. I would like to convey my regards and best wishes to all the young leaders who are attending this student parliament and I am thankful to MIT-SOG’s management and BCS platform for giving me this honor.”
Jignesh Mevani, MLA and activist, Gujrat while talking at ‘Casteism and Corruption: Biggest blots in Indian Democracy’ session said, “More than 80 crore people cannot spend more than Rs20 in a day due to corruption. There are crimes against dalits in every 18 minutes and 90% of them still live in the outskirts of villages. When I first entered the assembly after becoming the MLA, the employees of assembly like peons, liftmen came to me and told that our salary is Rs12,000 but we receive only Rs7000-8000. After this I asked myself a question which still leaves me in thought that Gujrat Assembly who cannot pay minimum wages to its own employees, there, what law we will make? In our country, who will be the landowner and who will be landless is decided by caste.”
Adv. Prashant Bhushan – Eminent Lawyer and Social Activist while talking during the session Judicial Turmoil : Disquiet and Dissent of Indian Judiciary said, “ Today’s reality is that that corruption has expanded in the judiciary and wrong decisions are being taken. Government has found new ways such as finding something wrong related to Judge’s family members and blackmail them. Today there are four problems that are there in the judiciary, i.e. Ordinary people don’t have access to justice, cases not decided at right time, corrupt lawyers and the independency of judiciary is being threatened. When Mr. Ranjan Gogoi, became the chief justice, we had thought things would improve but that did not happen. Several issues such as Master of roster has not been resolved.”
Apaprt from these speakers and Awardees student community witnessed some intriguing speeches by thought leaders like Smt. Brinda karat-Senior leader-CPI, Arundhati Bhattacharya- Former Chairman SBI, Smt. Trupti Desai-Gender Equality Activist, Shankarsinh Vaghela-Former CM-Gujarat, Tushar Gandhi President Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi-Eminent Lawyer and MP Congress, Adv Majeed Menon- MP Rajysabha NCP, Dr. Abhay Firodiya- Chairman- Force Motors, Dr. A Velumani- Founder Thyrocare Technologies, Smt. Veena George – MLA (CPIM), Aranmula, Pathanamthitta, Kerala and many others. They spoke on various topics pertaining to nation building and encouraged the youth to build a stronger India by strengthening our democracy.
