Nearly 50 people killed in Odisha due to Lightning in two days

Bhubaneswar: Lightning again wreaked havoc in many parts of the State , killing 19 people and leaving many more injured. Two persons also died due to lightning near the State capital.

While one person was killed in Dhauli, a girl died a lighting struck her in Andharua gram panchayat on the outskirts of the city. In Khordha district, a 14-year-old boy lost his life.

In Puri district, one person was killed in Brahamagiri and another died in Astarang. A man died and his wife was injured in Nischintakoili block of Kendrapada district. Sources said the couple was farm labourers.

In Dhenkanal district, one person was killed and nine students of Synergy Engineering College were injured when they were doing a NCC drill in the college premises. In neighbouring Angul district one person was also killed. Similarly, in Bargarh district, two persons also lost their lives as lightning struck them.

Three persons, Ashok Biswal (30) of Manipur under the Dhenkanal Sadar police station, Santosh Rout (45) of Kadalibadi under the Banki PS and Hadibandhu Sahoo of Dorada under the Athagarh PS died and at least eight girl students of the Rasrasikpur UG UP School here were injured due to lightning at about 3 pm on Monday.

In the other shocking incident, at least eight students, namely, Rumali Mishra, Suhani Nayak, Gayatri Dhalsamant of Class-VIII and Laxmipriya Behera, Srutimayee Majhi, Ipsita Nayak and Sumitra Singh of Class-VI of the Rasrasikpur School sustained injuries after lightning hit them.
