National Training Programme On Fish Feed organized at ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar : A NFDB Sponsored 5 day National Training on “Recent Trend on Feed and Feeding Strategy for Various Life Stages of Commercially Important Freshwater Fish” is being organized at ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar during 21-25 August 2018. The participants of this training program are the fisheries department officials from the Government of Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha, Officers from the other Central Governments, entrepreneurs, progressive fish farmers and the trainers from the Aqua Field School (AFS). The main objective of this training program is to doubling the freshwater fish production by adopting the feed based aquaculture. In this training program, the different aspects of the fish nutrition such as nutrient requirement of fish for their various life stages, selection and use of quality fish feed ingredients, fish feed processing technology, fish feed formulations, preparation of farm made feed, production of sinking and extruded feeds, feed management and feeding strategy to reduce production cost will be covered. The program was inaugurated by Dr. B.R.Pillai, Director, ICAR-CIFA and her inaugural address she emphasized the production of cost-effective diet for different life stages of fish by using locally available feed ingredients. She also expressed that in order to increase the present fish production of 3.0 tons/ha to 6.0 tons/ha, supplementary feed is essentially required. She had advocated for the sustainable and eco-friendly aquaculture. Dr.K.N.Mohanta, Head(I/C), Fish Nutrition and Physiology Division, ICAR-CIFA and the Course Director of the training program opined that for doubling the income of fish farmer, the input optimization is the need of hour. He briefly told about the different feeding strategies to be followed to reduce production cost and increase the profit margin. Dr. K.C.Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA and Coordinator of the training program gave the outline of the training program. Dr.S.C.Rath, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA and also the Coordinator of the training program proposed the vote of thanks.
