Nandanik’s 2nd Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav inaugurated in Koraput


Koraput: The 2nd Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav 2017 started today at Koraput Town Hall. This is the only national level theatre festival in Southern Odisha organized from 2016 by Koraput based theatre group Nandanik. This year it will be held for three days March 30,31 & April 1.
The Inauguration Ceremony featured Shri Raj Kishore Mishra, Exective Director, NALCO, Damanjodi as the Chief Guest and Shri Umakant Das, veteran theatrician, author & teacher as the Special Guest. In his opening note, Shri Sourav Gupta, Director of Nandanik explained that the purpose of the national festival was to expose people of the region to good theatre and create an ambience conducive to Theatre. He also listed the various theatrical activities undertaken by Nandanik over the last three years. Shri Gupta said that the long term goal of the festival was to establish Koraput as an important centre of Theatre in the country.
Shri Umakant Das, veteran teacher & theatrician recalled the history of theatre in the Koraput region and thanked Nandanik for reviving theatre by doing programmes regularly at Koraput.
Shri Raj Kishore Mishra in his address as the Chief Guest applauded Nandanik for organizing this kind of a national level theatre festival in Koraput and emphasized on the importance of cultural exchange. Like previous year, this time also, a cultural organization was felicitated by Nandanik-Priya Theatre Group of Jeypore. Secretary of Nandanik, Shri Saumendra Kumar Swain presented the vote of thanks.
After the Inauguration Ceremony, Bangla play Eladidi by ‘Parichay’ from West Bengal and Odia play ‘Prastaba’ by Nandanik was staged. The audience were mesmerized by the wonderful acting of the artists.
This year the Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav will feature in all 7 plays-2 in Odia, 2 in Bangla, 1 Hindi, 1 Urdu & 1 Multi Lingual. Teams are from Odisha, West Bengal & Maharashtra.
