NALCO celebrates 20th National Technology Day

Bhubaneswar: 20th National Technology Day was celebrated by Aluminium major National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) at Bhubaneswar, yesterday. To mark the occasion, a talk on “Technology: India’s new face for the World” was delivered by Dr. Binoy Kumar Das, Director of Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha. In his address, Dr Das highlighted on the significant milestones achieved by India in Agriculture, Marine & Milk Products, Nuclear Power, Space, Bio technology etc, thereby making India self-sufficient and proving the World, the scientific acumen possessed by India to go forward. “With abundance of resources & talents, endowed with a youth population of over 65%, India has the potential to be the world leader. To make the dream possible, we need to have strong patriotism, positive attitude and a passion to achieve the best,” said Dr. Das.

Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO, dedicated this Technology Day celebration at NALCO to the scientist, engineers & concerned technical teams who have been able to implement NALCO’s and World’s first ever Nano based Emrion technology for providing purified water by successfully addressing the endemic problem of fluoride contamination. It may be mentioned that the Aluminium major has already implemented this technology in its Aluminium Smelter plant and looking forward for scaling it up at commercial scale for benefit of the society at large. Dr. Chand further said that the innovations in science & technology should be aimed for the good of the humanity and subsequent use of such technologies will be beneficial for the society at large.

Delivering the welcome address Shri S.K. Roy, Director (Project & Technical) shared his thoughts on NALCO’s R&D activities. He mentioned that NALCO has undertaken several R&D projects in-house and in collaboration with premier institutions in India and abroad and the company has been spending about 4% of its PAT for its Research & Development activities.
The function concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Subrat Kar, General Manager (Research & Development). To mark the occasion of musical video “Amrut Gamaya” on Swachatta (cleanliness & hygiene) was also released by Dr. Chand. The programme was attended by eminent Scientists, Technocrats and Engineers, apart from NALCO employees.
