Bhubaneswar: Good news for visitors planning to visit Crafts Museum at Kala Bhoomi and want to listen to the guides speaking in Odia to the visitors. Yes! From tomorrow the authorities of the newly-opened museum are going to introduce the much-awaited event at 3 pm. The guided museum walk in Odia at Kala Bhoomi will be of an hour. Every week, except Monday, the walk will be available for people interested to have the journey to explore Odia art and craft tradition through the mother tongue.
The Odia Museum Walk will be managed by the curators of the Crafts Museum and initially two girls working as curators will be the guides of the walk. However, the initial Odia Museum Walk will come with a “jugalbandi’’ of music and the musicians will provide a relief to the guests during their discussion on the museum floor.
Currently the Museum Walk in English is being organised by Ekamra Walks under the partnership of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Odisha Tourism and Department of Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts. Curated by Detour Odisha, the programme starts at 3.30 pm every Sunday afternoon and continues till 5 pm.
Museum authorities wanted to start the walk in Odia as they realised that many visitors still want to hear the narration regarding the various galleries in their mother tongue. “It is right to have a walk in English or Hindi, but as being a classical language and a craft tradition of thousand years or even more, listening to the stories in mother tongue would certainly provide a special feeling to the visitor,’’ said an official. Odia is the only language from the Indo-Aryan group of languages to receive the Classical status in 2014 after Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Sanskrit.
Though the special Museum Walk with other programmes are already there on every Sunday afternoon, the museum authorities would also start a daily walk in the forenoon in English. Both the Odia and English daily walks would be strictly of 1 hour each.
Already the Sunday Museum Walk at Crafts Museum, Kala Bhoomi has completed nine walks so far and on an average 55 to 60 people are coming every week. It can be noted here that the daily walk in Odia will need to have visitors obtain the usual entry fees to enter into the museum premises. While the fees for an adult is Rs 50-a-person, for students showing I-Cards it is Rs 20-a-person and free for kids below 12 years of age.
