Sambalpur: Mr A K Jha, Chairman & Managing Director, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) today released “Sambalpur Itihaas” – a comprehensive volume on the history of Sambalpur from 200 AD to modern days.
Mr Jha released the first Odia print of “Sambalpur Itihaas” in the presence of Mr J P Singh, Director (Technical/Operations), Mr L N Mishra, Director (Personnel), Mr Munawar Khursheed, IRPF, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri O P Singh, Director (Technical/Projects & Planning), Mr Deepak Panda, the author of the book and president Sambalpur Press Club.
Appreciating the efforts of the author in bring out detailed history of western Odisha, the CMD said, “It is a duty of every citizen to contribute towards preservation of the history for coming generation”.
Supported by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, “Sambalpur Itihaas” chronicles the history and has rare references such as judgments pertaining to mutiny of Veer Surendra Sai and others, diamond mines of Sambalpur, important letters written between top government officials and instrument of accession of princely States, letters from Gandhiji and Fraser, reports On Sambalpur British Imperialism.
Having references from old newspapers on Sambalpur and other documentary evidences, the book also speaks about Mr Iskander Mirza, the first President of Pakistan, who was Political Agent for the Britishers in Sambalpur.
