Bhubaneswar: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the ICAR-Central Institute Of Freshwater Aquaculture and the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar was held at the KIIT, Bhubaneswar to make a new beginning of collaboration in science, technology and the extension of scientific knowledge from the lab to the land. ICAR-CIFA delegation was led by it’s Director, Dr.Saroj Kumar Swain along with Dr.Pramod Kumar Sahoo, incharge- PME, Dr.Mrinal Samanta, Chairman-Students committee, Mr.B.K. Sinha, CAO and Mr.I.B. Kumar, SAO. The honorable Vice Chancellor of the KIIT-DU, Prof.Sasmita Samanta ,the Pro Vice Chancellor, Deans of various schools and HODs of various departments was present while signing the MoU.While addressing the gathering the honorable VC expressed her happiness in signing the MoU with ICAR-CIFA, and she reiterated that this collaboration will lead to the development of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in exchanging the research facilities as well as student’s and faculties. Dr Saroj Kumar Swain mentioned that ICAR-CIFA is a premier and unique freshwater fisheries research institute under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Govt of India. It has several cutting edge research and farm facilities and has four divisions : Aquaculture Production and Environment Division, Fish Genetics and Biotechnology Division, Fish Health & Management Division, Fish Nutrition and Physiology Division and a Social Science Section. There are 78 highly qualified and experienced scientists who are leading several national and international research projects and are catering the need of several stake holders of the country. In the present context of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, enrichment of knowledge, enhancement of skills and empowerment of human resources are very critical. Thus, there is a need to collaborate among the institutes for the mutual developments. Like KIIT-DU, ICAR-CIFA has previously made MoUs with several Universities and institutes of eminence within and outside Odisha to come up with the innovative ideas in solving the problems of the farmers and entrepreneurs of this country. Mr.B.K. Sinha, greatly appreciated the gesture of the KIIT to come forward in signing the MoU, and reassured the smooth exchange of the facilities. Dr. M. Samanta, mentioned that this collaboration will greatly benefit the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students as well as faculties of both institutes to access each other’s facilities for their dissertation work and training and the research output will immensely help in enhancing the agricultural and aquacultural productivity.
