MCL breaks all previous records, registers growth in all parameters in FY’21

Bhubaneswar: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has broken all its previous records by achieving the highest ever production of 148.01 million tonne (MT) and the highest ever coal despatch of 146 MT with a record over-burden removal of 174.5 million cubic meters (MCuM) setting a strong foundation for making Coal India achieve target of one billion production by 2024.

Chairman-cum-Managing Director Mr P K Sinha, while addressing the media at a press conference here, expressed his gratitude to the State and the Centre government for extending all necessary support to the company, which ensured company achieve new milestones despite COVID19 pandemic.

“The coal production, despatch and OB removal of MCL during the financial year 2020-21 was the highest ever at 148.01 MT, 146 MT and 174.5 MCuM respectively,” he said, expressing his gratitude to all the stakeholders, including the Centre & the State governments and employees of the company and contractors’ workers.

In 2020, the company not only worked for providing the energy security to the nation, but also actively contributed with the state government in fight against COVID19 pandemic.

MCL had signed a Tripartite Agreement with Govt. of Odisha and SUM hospital for setting-up of a 525-bedded COVID Hospital at Bhubaneswar and a 150-bedded COVID19 hospital at Talcher. Besides, company also established a dedicated COVID Health Centre of 50 beds in Jharsuguda and other Covid Care Centres having a capacity to accommodate 85 patients.

The Capital Expenditure (CapEx) of Rs 2300 crore by MCL was also the highest among all the Coal India subsidiaries.

MCL is committed to provide clean coal with minimum impact of environment. In this regard, the company is implementing nine First Mile Connectivity projects to provide pollution-free state-of-the-art rake loading system at a total expenditure of Rs 3,600 Crore. This will generate a capacity of 126 MT/Yr.

MCL enjoys being the top company in Odisha contributing under CSR. In the year ended March 31, 2021, the company had spent Rs 193 crore under CSR, achieving 14.5 % growth over its target of Rs 168.44 crore for Financial Year 2020-21.
