Report by Pratap Pradhan, Bhubaneswar: The maiden soccer coach of Odisha Mr. Shuvendu Panda was shortlisted by Raymond Verheijen, Founder World Football Academy to participate as an Expert in the Expert football conditioning and periodization Coaching Program which to be held in Benfica FC, Lisbon in Portugal spanning from 30th May to 3rd June 2017.
Sources said, Raymond Verheijen who is the world greatest Football Conditioning and Periodisation Expert played a vital role for Shuvendu as Mr. Panda was participated in Football Conditioning & Periodisation Mentorship Program which was held in Amsterdam, Nederland last year.
During that the performance of Mr. Panda attracted Mr. Verheijen. The last year coaching program has made a unique way for Shuvendu in order to get such coveted opportunity. Shuvendu was the second Indian who got such opportunity to participate in the Mentorship organized by the World FootBall Academy under Raymond Verheijen last year.
Shuvendu got the invitation to Participate in this program as first Indian coach three months back. Shuvendu is the first Odia who has got AFC-A licensing certificate under Scott O’donell. Similarly He is an AIFF-D license instructor. He has also worked as a coach in Odisha State soccer team in the age group of U-14, U-16 and Santosh Trophy. Even he represented Odisha as a player in Santosh Trophy several times.
This apart, He has been working as a scout for U-16 Indian Team, U-17 World Cup Team and Senior Women in Indian Football team.
The experts around the globe will participate in this coaching program. All the training session during the course to be experimented through U-16 & U-19 Football team of Benfica FC Portugal. Benfica FC is one of the best Football Club of Europe which always participates in European Champions League. Most import thing of the Expert Meeting is that After the Europa League Final against Manchester United on Wednesday 24th May in Stockholm, the Ajax head coach will travel to Lisbon to share with the Expert Meeting delegates how he has developed the attacking playing style with his young players. Also top four European expert like Bert van Lingen (specialized in youth football), Vera Pauw (specialized in both individual periodisation and women football), Marcel Lucassen (specialized in individual football action analysis), Mikael Kuijpers (specialized in physiotherapy/rehab) will be participated as a Mentor under Raymond.
It is a dream for an Indian to reach see Benfica FC however, a young coach Shuvendu has been selected to participate as an expert in Benfica which is a proud moment for our country.

At club level Verheijen has been working as a football conditioning consultant with European giants like Glasgow Rangers, Barcelona (Champions League 2006), Zenit St Petersburg (UEFA Cup 2008), Chelsea (FA Cup 2009) and Manchester
In 2011, Verheijen’s coaching career entered the next phase when he became assistant manager with Wales working alongside Gary Speed. Under the tenure of this coaching team Wales became the most improved nation in the FIFA World Rankings of 2011.
Verheijen remains consultant for several FA’s and clubs.
