Bhubaneswar: Summer brings cheers to students as schools declare holidays, but these days, schools are becoming learning grounds through fun, frolic and play, thanks to summer camps in innovative ways.
DAV Public School, Pokhariput , being one of the foremost schools in the city to follow the curriculum of learning through fun, has taken up summer camps in music, sports, yoga, dance, art and craft, IT and robotics. Interestingly, students have joined these classes in large numbers as they want to learn things and be in the first lane.
Started on May 2 the Summer Camp will continue till May 10. Students, however, were asked to choose from the options to join their favourite themes as per their likings. The fees also vary from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 depending on the item like art and craft or robotics. There is a flexi time table as the classes are from 6.30 am till 11 am, depending on the choices.
“Of late Smart City Bhubaneswar has become a growing sports hub with international importance with focus areas like hockey and athletics. Currently the women’s hockey team of India has a Captain from Odisha and there are five players in the squad from our state. Development in IT sector and Robotics has also become the buzz word in school curriculum as they would expand the horizon of participating students,’’ said Principal Sujata.
Sanghamitra Satapathy, supervisor of the school added that the students now-a-days are equally interested in extracurricular activities besides studies. Through these special sessions they would certainly learn a lot to excel in the field of their choice.’’
A young participant Akriti said “I have joined the Art and Craft class during the summer camp as I like to learn the techniques to create beautiful crafts at home and would try to develop new designs once I grow up.’’
Another participant Ananya said “I have chosen IT as I want to explore the Computer Science Engineering stream in future and do some research in the topic. I think by more and more exposure one can gather knowledge over the years while in school, in a preferred subject of interest.’’
Yashpreet, who has participated in sports, said “the sports activities have always drawing out attentions as India is doing well in many fields like badminton, hockey, cricket and shooting. I have joined in the camp to hone my skills in badminton. I am really gaining much from the classes.’’
