Lady councilor resigns blaming non cooperation of Keonjhargarh Municipality

Report by Malaya Mohapatra; Keonjhar : Inspite of all her efforts, inability to propel development activities in her ward due to non cooperation from concerned authorities, Sushri sangeeta Nanda, councilor of ward-15 resigned from her post. While submitting her resignation on 6th march 2018, Sangeeta has brought allegations about various corruption in development works and has demanded a probe into the mis utilizations of funds. After the municipal elections in 2013, BJD formed the council with Meena Majhi as the chairperson. But due to resentment among council members, Meena lost her seat after she lost in the no confidence motion passed against her on 28/12/2015 and independent elected member Saroj Sahoo remained in charge of Chairman since then. The Election commissioner suspended 9 councillors who had voted against Meena inspite of party whip on basis of a petition filed by the ex chairman. Finally the suspended councilors including Sangeeta were reinstated after receiving orders of High Court after a year. In the last few council meetings our proposals for development in my ward was repeatedly rejected by the chairman and executive officer who have intentionally tried to ignore my ward, alleged Sangeeta. A petition of Sangeeta received by Prime minister Office was also redirected to Chief Secretary Odisha for action but no action was taken on her grievance. Repeated complaints to DG vigilance to investigate financial corruptions in Municipal body has gone unheeded, she further added. When contacted Saroj sahoo, Municipality Chairman denied the allegations.
