‘Konark Bikri Heba’ and other plays by eminent playwright Dr. Abhaya Dash released

Bhubaneswar: The play collation ‘Konark Bikri Heba & other plays’ composed by notable and eminent Odia playwright Dr. Abhaya Dash was released here at Subernarekha Chamber auditorium at Bhoumyanagar, Bhubaneswar today. The book release ceremony was presided over by legendary Odia litterateur Shri Satakadi Hota in the presence of many dignified personnel of Odia literature. Pandit Raj Kishore Mishra and Shri Asit Mohanty, famous literature as well columnist reviewed the play. On this occasion, Subernarekha Chamber auditorium also named after Odisha’s first barrister late Biswanath Mishra.

After seeing time-worm condition of Konark temple, its patron king Narasinghdev once again takes birth on holy land of Utkal being unsteady in heaven. Following this, to commensurate a nice maintenance of his own, he used to stay in America as a citizen and tried to hold electoral right over Konark which turned out to be a mass agitation. Eventually in lieu of sparing Konark condition he backs out from his demands which gather a reflective signs through this play collation. Other six plays explain social malice in a satirical manner. The writer portrays real images of society towards greediness on property, administration, illegal use of government lands, evade of tax and paralysing condition of administration like issues through his writings ‘Swargadwara’ and ‘Katha Kahe Tanka’. Among these seven plays three plays have already been staged at distinct auditoriums in Delhi. Those plays were ‘Panchasakha’ in 1996, ‘Tote Hin Tuhi Rakhya Kar’ in 2000 and ‘Konark Bikri Heba’ in 2012 & 2013. Those were all satirical plays.

Dr. Abhaya Dash is a renowned figure among Odias in Delhi. He was born at Baishimouza area under Jagatsinghpur district. His father clinched as Pandit Antaryami Dash was a freedom fighter and mother Bhanuprava Debi was a lady infused towards Gandhian philosophy. The duo was from Baishnaba religion. Being an officer in Health department of Government of India, Dr. Dash took voluntary retirement service in 2007 from the post of Assistant Medical Superintendent at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. He is associated with Odia Organizations, Odia Samaja, Odisha Forum, Odia Doctors’ Association, Iproch like organizations at New Delhi. Amidst it he also got special proficiency in romantic plays, satirical poems, dramas and short stories. The published writings are ‘Ramya Aranya’ in romantic play and ‘Tipachinha’ in short story collation. Now play collation ‘Konark Bikri Heba’ and other stories are going to be published.

The writer has opined that this book ‘Konark Bikri Heba and other stories’ will touch the hearts of the readers and become popular among the audience and artists.
