Knockout Cricket Tournament 2019 concludes with a show stopping final match in Lanjigarh

Lanjigarh: Vedanta NVN Colony’s Golden Sports Club in support from Vedanta Limited’s Lanjigarh unit recently concluded its annual ‘Knockout Cricket Tournament 2019’ at the Vedanta Nagar playground in Lanjigarh on 14th April. A record 32 teams competed in the 12-over inter-village tournament, which commenced on 25th March and concluded on 14th April 2019, in one of the most popular sporting tournaments in the region. The tournament started with a friendly match between Vedanta NVN Colony and Vedanta Township, where the Vedanta Township won the match.

In a great display of skill and strong batting performance in the final match of the tournament, the team from Basantpada (95 for 4 wkts) beat Biswanathpur (94 all out) by 6 wickets. The match saw some great moments such as a top score by Sankar (43 in 22 balls) and a stunning bowling performance by Man of the Match Nabin Kr. Naik (3 wkts) from the winning side to dismiss the opposing team for 94 runs in the first innings. During the presentation ceremony, Anjib (Biswanathpur) was awarded the Best Bowler of the Tournament, Bhuteswar Hari (Biswanathpur) received the Best Fielder award, Ajit Kr. Patra (Biswanathpur) was adjudged Best Keeper, Ram Chandra Goud (Basantpada) was awarded for Maximum Sixes and Nabin Kr. Naik (Basantpada) was adjudged Man of the Tournament.

Commenting on the event, Mr. Rakesh Mohan, COO, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh Unit, who was also the Chief Guest said, “This year’s tournament saw some pulsating moments, from the amazing semi-final match to the grand finals, all of us have witnessed the action on ground and the commitment of the players. It was a remarkable display of sportsmanship, skill and stamina. The resounding success of this tournament and the level of participation only encourages us to connect more with the community and engage with activities.”

The annual knockout tournament remains one of the biggest tournaments organised by The Golden Sports Club. The youth club comprises of the employees of Vedanta from NVN Colony namely Mr. Pabitra Majhi, Mr Raghu Pani, Mr Dushmant Pradhani, Mr Rabi Majhi, Mr Jagi Pani, Mr Supari Majhi, Mr Jitender Majhi, Mr Shatrugan, Mr Patra Majhi, Mr Sumesh Majhi, Mr Rabi Dandsena, Mr Hari Majhi, Mr Basudeb Majhi, Mr Pungri, Mr Dasrath, Mr Karuna Sahu and others.

With a view to promote sports within the region and build camaraderie amongst local youth, 32 teams from across the state participated in the prestigious annual tournament. The teams/ villages include Golden Sports Club, Kotraguda, Champadeipur, Basantpada, Ambadola, Chatikona, Harekrushnapur, Rayagada, Kamarda, Chhatrapur, Singpur, Dakulguda, Sardapur, Gopinathpur, Bissamcuttack, Muniguda, Lanjigarh, NVN, Rengopali, Mering, Ramchandrapur, Jagannathpur, Sitapur, Bijepur, Patraguda, Biswanathpur, Lanjigarh Road, Baterlima, Reliving Stars, The Great Bhatguda and Vedanta Township.
