Institutions Go Green by adopting Solar Energy

Bhubaneswar : An intellectual congregation from Academic institutions and NGO’s in Odisha came together to take up clean energy and environmental initiatives, for a cleaner and greener Odisha. Organized by SwitchON and ONergy Solar, this event “Go solar and take climate action for a Cleaner & Greener future” was a unique seminar with the Government providing up to 30% Subsidies for Non Commercial Institutions in the Odisha.

The event brought together leading educationists, environmentalists, influencers, civil society members to one platform to exchange ideas and explore ways to mitigate climate change. Renowned personalities and dignitaries included Mr. Haribandhu Panda, Vice Chancellor, Centurion University; Er. Patitapaban Panda, Vice Chairman, GIFT, Prof Amit Banerjee, VC SOA University, Dr K C Mohanty, Princiapal Indus College of Engineering attended the seminar . Representative from civil society like Gram Utthan, Mahashakti foundation, CYSD also attended the meet.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Haribandhu Panda, Vice Chancellor, Centurion University, said, “This kind of program is very essential with the great amount of challenges that the world is facing today. He stressed about replacement of existing electrical appliances into energy efficient devices and a systemic approach for roof top solar by institutions ”. Effort should be made to have more and more skilled manpower in this sector in Odisha. He motivated other institutions to adopt this new concept of grid tied solar system like Centurion. “Till date, ONergy has put Solar Rooftop systems on over 100 schools, colleges and other charitable institutions and sensitized over 200,000 students to take environmental action. ONergy is one of the only organizations to received the largest mandate from the Govt to put solar on non-commercial institutes and individual residents across the entire North East, Eastern and Northern India, for which Govt will pay upto 30% subsidy for Odisha,” said PiyushJaju, CEO ONergy Solar. Switch ON had started with the mission of reaching out to schools and colleges with creating awareness on environment and advocacy. “We are really excited to see educational Institutes & Hospitals take up such environmental friendly initiatives, and build the climate leaders for tomorrow,” said NirmalMohanty of ONergy Solar. The Solar Energy Export Mr. Banamali Dash given the presentation on sustainable Energy for all on MDG-7, Energy security and Energy as cross cutting issues.
