IMD forecasts southwest monsoon to hit Odisha coast by second week of June

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Friday forecast that the southwest monsoon is likely to hit the Odisha coast by the second week of June.

IMD Regional Director Sarat Chandra Sahu said onset of monsoon would take place at the Kerala coast on May 29 though the normal date is June 1. After this, the monsoon would move towards the Odisha coast.

At the moment, Odisha is facing heat wave conditions and intermittently experiencing hail and thunderstorms at different places. The mercury is expected to rise in interior and western Odisha after May 22 with possibility of intense heat wave conditions. Now in the next 24 hours, most parts of the State would experience partly cloudy sky with rains and thundershowers likely to lash some places.
