Ill health forces Manika Batra to pull out from 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2019

The poster girl of Indian table tennis Manika Batra has withdrawn from all individual events of the ongoing 21st Commonwealth table Tennis Championships 20919, citing ill health.

The 24-year-old, along with Sharath Kamal led the Indian contingent in the tournament, and a redraw of the women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles will be required because of her withdrawal.

Batra was the top seed in the women’s draw while G. Sathiyan was the top seed in the men’s draw. The women’s draw was a favorable one for India.

While Batra would hope to recover in time for the third edition of the Ultimate Table Tennis week, starting in her hometown New Delhi, her pull-out would result in the missing out on precious match-time with veteran A. Sharath Kamal in mixed doubles. The pair is in contention to qualify for the next year’s Olympic.
