The students from Panchayatraj High School, Kamakhaya Nagar visited Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal’s Media Museum on Thursday. The visit was organised by Group B of English Journalism as part of their event management assignment.
Speaking on the occasion, theatre enthusiast and Drama Head, Panchayatraj High School, Dinesh Dass said, “We should continue this tradition after returning from here and come back every year. It is absolutely necessary to cultivate this among the students.”
The event started off with an introductory session wherein the history of IIMC was screened for the visitors. With it, a special feature documentary on the Kamakhaya Nagar students was also screened which celebrated the school for its successful bid at national level drama competition for the third consecutive year.
The students were taken on a tour to the Media Museum which housed vintage media equipments, historic newspaper clippings among other significant age-old devices from the past. The students also got to understand how block printing was done in past. In an interactive quiz post tour, Swadhin Sahu and Subhasmita Pradhan won the quiz competition.
“Event management is a part of student’s curriculum on which they will be marked. Not just this, it will help them in public relations as well,” said Jitendra Pati, faculty member, IIMC, Dhenkanal evaluating the organizers during the event.
“It was a learning experience of management skills and it brought all of us together in conducting the visit successfully. It was fun and also a new opportunity to interact with people who know nothing about our field,” said Prachi Rathi, a student from the organising team.
Feeling the need to conduct more of such sessions where kids get to know other professions and the significance of museum was well communicated with the visit. The event was successful in sending across the message of understanding history and bridging the gap between young school students who might now take journalism and media studies in future.
