Dhenkanal: Everybody loves a good story and every image has a thousand stories to tell. As they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” in journalism too images, both still and moving, have an equal importance as the words.
To enhance the skills of capturing images, IIMC Dhenkanal is going to organize the third edition of Photografia, a workshop on photography, photojournalism and visual storytelling, from 22 September to 25 September 2019.
The four-day workshop will be curated and conducted by two national award-winning photojournalists, Himanshu Vyas and Tabeenah Anjum Qureshi.
Himanshu Vyas is the chief photographer and columnist with Hindustan Times, Jaipur since 2000. He has won several awards including Ramnath Goenka Press Photo Award, WAN IFRA (China) competitions twice and also an award by UNEP at South Korea.
Tabeenah Anjum Qureshi, born and brought up in Kashmir, is presently working as the bureau chief of Deccan Herald in Rajasthan. She received the National Award in Photography conferred by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India. She was the first woman photographer from Rajasthan and Kashmir to bag the prestigious award.
Detailing about Photografia.3 Dr Mrinal Chatterjee, regional director and professor, IIMC Dhenkanal said, “We have been conducting this workshop for last two years and like previous years, this time too it is going to be an intense one. Different sessions will address the nuances of photography, photojournalism and visual storytelling that are designed to ignite the creative minds and open up new perspectives.”
The workshop will include theory classes as well as rigorous hands-on training. The participants will also be taken out for two photo walks. After a minute critical assessment, select photographs will be mounted in a photo exhibition at IIMC campus.
Apart from a select group of students from IIMC, the workshop is also open to the students of other institutions against a nominal fee which will include meals and boarding. The interested participants need to pre-register themselves by 12 September as limited seats will be filled up on ‘first come first served’ basis.
