ICAR-CIFA inccurred a loss of RS 10 Crores Due To “ FANI”

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone FANI caused large scale destruction at ICAR-CIFA, Kausalyaganga Bhubaneswar campus. The greenery inside the campus which houses more than 3000 trees has been completely shattered by the monster storm. The damage to the infrastructure is equally vast. Electricity poles have been uprooted and the buildings have been damaged, some laboratories have been damaged and electric supply to the entire campus has been disruppted. Around 180 electricity poles inside the campus have been completely damaged leading to the shutting down of the labs, power supply and water supply inside the campus. Now office and laboratories are managing with the help of a small diesel generator.
Apart of infrastructure, live research materials also lost like genetic stocks of fish and prawns, ornamental fish varieties and other important fish species, chemicals and biologicals lost due to the devastation caused by the storm. Many books of the institute library have also been damaged. The staff quarters and hatcheries of various fish and prawn have been damaged due to falling of the tree and electric poles. It needs massive restoration work to rebuild the infrastructure.
A loss of to the tune of Rs. 10 Crores was estimated due to the “FANI”. If the power to this important establishment is not restored immediately, the loss will further be aggravated.
