Bhubaneswar: ICAR- Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Pragati, Koraput conducted an Awareness Programme and Scientists-Farmers Interaction Meet at Farmers’ Field School, Dayanidhiguda, Koraput on 19 September, 2018. Koraput District of Odisha is identifies as one of the Aspirational (tribal) districts by the Government of India. The district has been adopted under Tribal Sub-Plan Scheme of ICAR-CIFA for demonstration of scientific aquaculture practices for livelihood development of tribal farming communities from 2018. A team of experts from ICAR-CIFA namely Dr. B.C. Mohapatra, Chairman TSP and Principal Scientist; Dr. A. Barat, Principal Scientist and Dr. U.L. Mohanty, STO visited the district during 17-19 September, 2018 for selection of ponds and beneficiaries for adoption. On 19 September, 2018 the Awareness Programme was conducted just to make the farmers aware about the technologies available with ICAR-CIFA, which can be useful for adoption and for better economic returns to them. The programme was attended by 200 farmers and delegates from the district. The officials who spoke in the occasion in addition to the ICAR-CIFA team were Deputy Director of Fisheries, Government of Odisha, Koraput Zone; District Fisheries Officer, Koraput; District Agriculture Officer, Koraput; Dr. S.K. Palita, Professor & Head, Biodiversity Centre, Central University, Koraput and Dr. Luna Panda, Executive Director of Pragati, Koraput. On 19 September, 2018 in the sideline of the Meet “Swachha Bharat Abhiyan Programme” was conducted in Dayanidhiguda village and school of Koraput District.
