Very heavy rainfall predicted in Odisha in next 24 hrs under influence of ‘Mora’

Bhubaneswar: The State’s coastal districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in next 24 hours under the influence of cyclonic storm ‘Mora’. This was informed by the the Regional Office of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Monday.

Rains would lash Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts as the ‘Mora’ is moving in northeast direction towards Bangladesh at 19 km per hour, informed IMD Regional Director Sarat Chandra Sahu, adding that pre-monsoon showers would continue in the State till May 30.
In view of the developments and MeT department’s forecast, the Odisha Government on Monday has put four districts – Balasore, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak on alert. The Collectors of the concerned districts have been asked to remain vigilant and alert on the situation.
An advice has also been given for hoisting Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in the state.
