New Delhi: Govt. of India has taken up the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) with the financial assistance of the World Bank for the repair and rehabilitation of initially about 225 dam projects across the seven states of India, namely Jharkhand (DVC), Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand (UJVNL). The number of dams has been finally revised to 198. Project was started in April 2012 and scheduled completion is June 2018. The total project cost is Rs.2100 Crore.
The objectives of DRIP are to improve the safety and operational performance of selected existing dams and associated appurtenances in a sustainable manner, and to strengthen the dam safety institutional setup of participating States / Implementing Agencies.
The State-wise breakup of the dams identified for rehabilitation along with fund allocated to Project Implementing Agencies under DRIP is given as under:-

Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) is an externally-aided project. 80% of the total project is provided by the World Bank as loan/credit and remaining 20% is borne by the States / Central Government (for CWC). Govt. of India has not sought funding from any internal agency for this project.
The works/projects are under various stages of implementation. Rehabilitation works for 193 Nos. of dam projects have been awarded. Further, rehabilitation works for 18 DRIP dams have been completed and rehabilitation works for another 175 DRIP dams are at various stages of completion. These works are as per the scheduled plan. Rehabilitation works on five DRIP dams namely, Hattikuni and Maskinala Dams (Karnataka), Upper Bhawani, Pegumbahallah Forebay and Peechiparai dams of Tamil Nadu are at tendering stage.
This information was given by Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
